Exhibit: "August Wilson's Pittsburgh:
The Ground on Which He Stood"
Premiered April 27, 2006

"August Wilson's Pittsburgh:  The Ground on Which He Stood" was created to celebrate the birthday of the late Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright, August Wilson.  Born in the Hill District in 1945, Wilson found creative inspiration in the voices, music, and people of his Pittsburgh neighborhood.  Nine of his ten Broadway-bound plays are set in the Hill, each taking place in a different decade of the 20th century.

The video uses original interviews, archival photos and production stills, and video performances of Wilson's plays from regional theaters across the country to illustrate the deep and abiding ties Wilson had with his native Pittsburgh. Wilson's own words and reflections on his life in theater add poetic poignancy to this story of the soft-spoken artist who became an internationally acclaimed playwright and contemporary giant of American theater.
