Dollar Bank Opens Ohio Headquarters in the Galleria
Regional Bank Increases
Financial Commitment to Northeastern Ohio
CLEVELAND, Ohio (July 9, 2008) – Dollar Bank is demonstrating its long-term commitment to northeastern Ohio
with the opening of new headquarters in the Galleria at Erieview. The new two-story, glass-enclosed structure
at East Ninth and St. Clair measures 21,000-sq.-ft., bringing the bank’s total area in the Erieview complex
to 50,000 sq. ft. The new space houses the headquarters branch, a Private Banking Center and a training
facility on the first floor, with retail operational support on the second. Scheduled to open in early
August, the new facility will anchor the Galleria and revitalize one of Cleveland's most prominent urban
centers.
Dollar Bank operates 24 branches and two loan centers in the Cleveland metropolitan area, offering a full
range of business and personal banking products and services. The bank has opened three facilities here in
the last year, the most recent being in the historic Park Building on Public Square and an earlier one on
SOM Center Road in Mayfield Heights. Dollar Bank Ohio has deposits of nearly $1.5 billion and employs more
than 300 people in the region.
“Our expanding presence demonstrates our ongoing commitment to Cleveland and northeastern Ohio,” says Andrew
Devonshire, president of Dollar Bank Ohio. “We have great confidence in the future economic vitality of this
region.”
At the time when Dollar Bank made the commitment to build new headquarters in the Galleria, the retail space
was struggling for economic survival. The bank worked with the shopping center’s owner and well-known
Cleveland architect William Eberhard, AIA, of Oliver Design Group, to create a striking two-story structure
befitting a bank’s corporate headquarters.
The glass-walled structure features an outdoor LED screen displayed on the exterior wall at the southwest
corner of the Galleria. Called the Dollar Bank Regional Showcase at the Galleria, the LED screen will
highlight Cleveland’s assets, people, history and events. The content being displayed will constantly change
to reflect current activities of northeastern Ohio’s cultural, educational, healthcare, manufacturing,
nonprofit and other sectors.
“Our Regional Showcase is a tribute to the people and treasures of northeastern Ohio,” says Devonshire. “Our
goal is to showcase what is positive about this dynamic region.”
A magnificent 512-sq.-ft. mosaic representing Dollar Bank’s iconic lion dominates a two-story interior wall
that is visible from the street. The massive wall mosaic is based on a stately stone lion that guards Dollar
Bank’s historic offices in downtown Pittsburgh. Artist Cecilia Silva of Italy-based Bisazza Company created
the 20 ft. x 25.5 ft. work of art from 412,000 glass tiles, each measuring 10 mm
2 (3/8 in
2). The mosaic was
assembled onsite in Cleveland during a weeklong installation in June.
With assets of $5.5 billion, Dollar Bank is the largest independent mutual bank in the United States,
employing more than 1,140 people in southwestern Pennsylvania and northeastern Ohio.
Dollar Bank Ohio is located at 1301 East Ninth Street, Cleveland, OH 44114; telephone 216-736-7386, fax
